#WCW – Tavi Gevinson

Tavi Gevinson is 19 years old. At 11 she started a fashion blog called The Style Rookie. The fashion world started noticing her wacky style and eloquent writing pretty quickly and pulled her out of obscurity.

She started being invited to shows at NYFW and making big connections in the industry.

Not happy to end there, Tavi founded Rookie Mag at the age of 14. Rookie is an alternate online magazine for teenage girls. She is the editor-in-chief and manages a large international staff. Since then she has done a Rookie US tour and launched 3 hard copy ‘year books’; a curated book of Rookie content over a year. Bear in mind she did this while still in full time education…

She is an inspiring public speaker – she did a Ted Talks at 15, and has been invited to speak all over the world – most notably for The Economist World Festival. She projects the ideas and musings of someone much older than herself, and is clearly extremely intelligent.

In 2011 and 2012 Tavi was listed in the Forbes 30 under 30 list. She was later named one of 2014’s most influential teens by Time.

Continuing her passion of writing, Tavi has been asked to write articles and interviews for larger international magazines. For example, she wrote the cover interview for Elle Magazine with Taylor Swift. It should also be noted that she is good friends with Taylor Swift due to her success with Rookie.

At the age of 19 she now lives in New York and is dipping her toes into Broadway and acting. Watch this space, big things are coming to come from this girl.
